Saying For Today: Trust allows us to love and adore what we cannot name.

Living in LOVE beyond Beliefs

EVERYONE IS WELCOME HERE

A man was walking through the wood ruminating on his many troubles. He stopped to rest against a tree. The tree was a magical tree that would instantly grant the wishes of anyone who came in contact with it. The man was thirsty and wished for a drink. Instantly, a cup of cool water appeared in his hand. Alarmed, he looked at the water, decided it was safe, and drank it. He realized he was hungry. He wished he had something to eat. A meal appeared for him. "My wishes are being granted," he thought. "Well, then,” he spoke out loud, “I wish for a beautiful home.” The home appeared in the meadow. A big smile crossed his face as he wished for servants to take care of the home. When they appeared, he knew he had been blessed with an incredible power. Next, he wished for a beautiful, loving, and intelligent woman to share his good fortune with. She appeared. "Wait a minute... this is ridiculous!," the man exclaimed to the woman. "I'm not this lucky. This can't be happening to me." As he spoke, everything disappeared. He shook his head and said, "I knew it." He walked away thinking about his many troubles.

Spiritual formation entails transformation of thoughts, of what you believe possible for you, of what you sense and know you have a right to as a human being. This it not about deserving something for you have played by the rules, so to speak, been a good child of some "god." This is most about you, for this is not about you. We could say, this is about you, for this is about everyone. So, we need to be aware of a false-humility, a distrusting and baneful self-denial. Spirituality - whatever you want to call it - is practical, experimental, empirical. To engage this path, is like engaging any path. If I am to become a scientist, I trust science and the wisdom transmitted through the ages. I see the truths science has to offer, skeptical but trusting. An honest spiritual path is like to that. We engage a mind and heart transforming path. We have a healthy skepticism, so we are conscious and intelligent about it. Yet, we begin with a trust that grows. The trust is hidden. This is not belief. And, progressively, the trust allows us to explore more fully and deeply the depths of Grace. Trust allows us to love and adore what we cannot name. Trust allows us to keep going, even when we have no idea how or where we are going. Yet, this is not blind faith - just believe faith, don't question "God" faith - all that non-sense (What loving being would want you just to believe in "Him"? What immense being would be offended that you question "Him"?). So, what is it? I leave the question with you. But, please be assured, the difference between this trust and its operations are central to our evolution as beings, and is vastly different from belief or blind faith. And, please know, I am not speaking of the subtle, scientific reductionism of spirituality and trust to a mere pseudo-empiricism, which is really just bad science and the arrogance of us humans to make claims that are, along with much religious superstition, closed to wellsprings of Grace open for everyone to communion with, share with, and Love. Blessings to All!
